These are the "Ten Commandments" of Stamo Collecting. Try to follow these steps at all times.

1. NEVER PASTE, GLUE OR TAPE A STAMP DOWN. Always use stamp hinges or other approved stamp mounts.

2. ALWAYS USE STAMP TONGS TO HANDLE MINT STAMPS. In fact, it is a good idea to use tongs when handling all stamps.

3. HANDLE YOUR STAMPS CAREFULLY AT ALL TIMES. Don't cram them into a box so that they may become torn, creased or otherwise damaged and thus destroy their value.

4. USE VERY LITTLE MOISTURE WHEN USING ANY KIND OF STAMP MOUNT. This applies to all mounts -- hinges or any other type og mounting.

5. BEWARE OF HUMIDITY. Stamp gum is made to stic, and stamps with gum will stick to almost anything if moisture is introduced, and there is no absolute sure way to unstick them. If you are in a humid area, keep your stamp collection in as cool and dry a olace as possible.

6. ONCE YOU HAVE DECIDED WHAT YOU WILL COLLECT, BUY THE BEST (LARGEST) ALBUM YOU CAN AFFORD. Buying a too-small album will only require transferring stamps to new album pages later -- a time consuming and expensive process.

7. NEVER SEAL A STAMP MOUNT COMPLETELY. Paper may disintegrate if kept absolutely air-tight.

8. DO NOT SOAK A STAMP OFF A COVER (ENVELOPE) UNTIL YOU FIND OUT WHETHER IT HAS ANY SPECIAL POSTAL MARKINGS OR OTHER REASONS THAT WOULD MAKE IT MORE VALUABLE IF LEFT "ON COVER". For instance, a cover stamped "First Day of Issue" would be more desirable than the stamp by itself. Generally speaking, common, ordinary stamps may be soaked off without any further checking; older covers should generally be checked with the Scott Standard Postage Stamp Catalog first, or better yet, with a qualified cover expert.

9. REMEMBER THAT A FEW STAMPS HAVE "FUGITIVE" INKS AND THESE INKS WILL RUN IF PUT IN WATER OR IN WATERMARK DETECTION FLUID. If in doubt, check the Scott Catalog first.

10. ENJOY YOUR HOBBY TO THE FULLEST! It can bring you a whole lifetime of enjoyment.
