"Silk" Cachets have been produced in the United States only since 1971. However, since that time, they have become the most popular and fastest growing cachet on the market. As new collectors have gone back to buy the early "Silk" Cachets, the demand has far exceeded the supply. Today man early "Silk" Cachets are bringing high prices when they appear on the market.
Another very popular area of FDC collecting is First Cachets. A First Cachet is the very first cachet produced by any cachetmaker. Very often the first cachets were produced in small quantities. First cachets by the popular cachetmakers such as ArtCraft, Colorano, Farnam, Fluegel, Fulton and others are difficult to locate, and sell for ten to fifty times the price of a common cachet on the same issue.
